Bezos, 59 mentioned his parents' recent relocation to Miami, where he attended high school, as a driving factor.
He has given his partner as a reason for his shift along with his parents. He expressed that he wants to be closer to his partner, Lauren Sánchez, and highlighted that his rocket company, Blue Origin, is increasingly focused on operations at Cape Canaveral, Florida.
Last month, Bloomberg News reported Bezos' purchase of a mansion in South Florida for $79 million, following the acquisition of a neighbouring property for $68 million.
"Seattle, you will always have a piece of my heart," said the former Amazon CEO in his caption where he shared an old video of him which was recorded by his father. The video is of his 'original office' which was started in the garage of his parent's residence.
Bezos accompanied his Instagram announcement with a video tour of Amazon's inaugural office, situated in his modest Seattle garage. The video showcases a room equipped with large white computers, a writing-covered dry-erase board, and a fax machine atop a grey filing cabinet. Reflecting on the company's early days, Bezos points out technical necessities, such as extension cords, due to limited power supply.
He concludes the video, noting, "It doesn’t take long to tour the offices of Amazon-dot-com Inc."
