Scottie Scheffler wins BMW Championship, matches Tiger Woods’ 18-year-old stunning feat

Scottie Scheffler produced a spectacular finish to capture the BMW Championship on Sunday, chipping in from 82 feet for birdie on the 17th hole to seal a two-shot victory over Scotland’s Robert MacIntyre. The victory marked Scheffler’s fifth PGA Tour title of the season, making him the first player since Tiger Woods (2006-07) to win at least five times in back-to-back years.

The World No. 1 carded a three-under 67 at Caves Valley to close at 15-under 265, rallying from four shots behind at the start of the day.



Already a two-time Masters champion, Scheffler also owns this season’s British Open and PGA Championship titles, further cementing his place as favorite to defend his FedEx Cup crown next week in Atlanta.

Scheffler’s decisive moment came at the par-three 17th, where he overshot the green and landed in the rough. His recovery pitch landed on the fringe, rolled across the green, and dropped for birdie - restoring his two-shot cushion after MacIntyre had pulled within one.


"It looked good when it landed, it looked good when it was rolling and it was nice to see that one go in," Scheffler said.

MacIntyre, seeking a wire-to-wire win after leading through three rounds, faltered with three bogeys in his first five holes. He rallied with a birdie at 16 to put pressure back on Scheffler but could not recover from his slow start.


The win also confirmed Scheffler’s place atop the US Ryder Cup points list, with automatic berths going to JJ Spaun, Xander Schauffele, Russell Henley, Harris English and Bryson DeChambeau.


Scheffler has now posted 17 consecutive sub-par rounds on tour, crediting his focus and intensity. "I try not to take shots off. Today was a grind," he said.

The BMW was the second FedEx Cup playoff event, narrowing the field to 30 players for the Tour Championship at East Lake.
