Laura Helmuth, who is the Editor-in-Chief of Scientific American has reportedly resigned following backlash over her inflammatory comments about US President- elect Donald Trump voters, whom she claimed as ‘fascists’ in a series of posts on the social media platform Bluesky on US Presidential Election night, reported New York Post.

According to New York Post, Laura Helmuth eventually announced her departure in the month of November while expressing a desire to take time for reflection and birdwatching after her 4 and half years tenure.

The remarks of Laura Helmuth which included derogatory comments about her generation and solidarity with those upset by the US Presidential Election results eventually sparked significant outrage specifically among the conservative commentators, asserted New York Post. Numerous critics eventually accused her of failing to maintain objectivity in her role as a scientific leader.

New York Post noted that in response to the backlash, Laura Helmuth deleted all her posts and later on issued an apology while stating that her comments were ‘offensive and inappropriate’ and did not represent her views or those of Scientific American. Additionally, the magazine had previously endorsed Democratic Presidential candidate Kamala Harris for US President which marked only the very second time in its 179 year history that it made a political endorsement.
