Óscar Cabrera Adames, a professional basketball player from the Dominican Republic, passed away this week following an apparent heart attack while undergoing a stress test at a health center in Santo Domingo, according to a social media post by Dominican sports commentator Héctor Gómez.

The 28-year-old player is believed to have suffered from myocarditis, a condition that weakens the heart and its electrical system, reducing its ability to pump blood, as stated by the American Heart Association.

Controversial Social Media Posts

After Cabrera Adames's death, several of his social media posts emerged in which he suggested that he developed the rare heart disease after receiving two doses of a COVID vaccine.

In one post, he wrote, "I got a damn Myocarditis from taking a f---ing vaccine. (I got 2 doses of Pfizer) And I knew it! Many people warned me."

Cabrera Adames mentioned that the vaccine was a work requirement for him as an international professional athlete playing in Spain. He expressed frustration at the situation, stating that he had no pre-existing health problems but collapsed during a match and almost died. He further mentioned undergoing 11 cardiology tests that yielded no findings.

Uncertainty Surrounding the Stress Test

The circumstances surrounding Cabrera Adames's heart attack during the stress test remain unclear. Stress tests are typically conducted to evaluate how the heart functions during physical activity. During the test, electrodes are attached to the patient's chest to record the heart's electrical activity. Whether the stress test directly contributed to the heart attack is yet to be determined.

Basketball Career and Controversial Past

Cabrera Adames, the nephew of Hugo Cabrera, a Dominican Sports Hall of Famer, had a basketball career that included playing at Daytona State College in Florida. However, in 2016, he was one of 12 men arrested by St. Johns County Sheriff's deputies for allegedly attempting to engage in sexual acts with a minor. The arrests were part of an undercover sting operation aimed at apprehending individuals seeking to exploit children through online platforms.

The passing of Cabrera Adames has shocked the Dominican Republic's basketball community, and investigations into the circumstances surrounding his heart attack are underway after his claims related to the Covid vaccine.
