The much-awaited San Diego Comic-Con 2023 (SDCC 2023) will be held in a month, and big movie studios have already dropped out of the mega event. Here’s why the decision was taken by the production companies.

The SDCC earlier had to cancel the five-day event due to the COVID-19 pandemic, putting Comic-Con International in limbo. In 2022, the SDCC was back, with COVID-19 precautions in place, and it was a success. But the 2023 Comic-Con in San Diego seems like it will not be so exciting for fans.

Why have major studios canceled their Comic-Con appearance?

Major movie, television and web series studios like Marvel, Sony, HBO, Universal, and Netflix have decided to give the San Diego Comic-Con a miss in 2023. The reason could be the ongoing Writers’ Strike and Actor’s Strike in Hollywood, which has stalled several new productions until the matter is resolved. So, many of these studios don’t have much to offer or showcase at Comic-Con.

When is the San Diego Comic-Con this year?

The Comic-Con International: San Diego event will be held from Thursday, July 20, 2023, to Sunday, July 23, 2023.

Warner Bros. Pictures is yet to decide on Comic-Con in San Diego, as the company’s streaming service Max will bring on its animation titles to the event.

Paramount Pictures, too, will hold a panel for the animated superhero film Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem.

On the other hand, NBC will move forward with its panels only if there is no actors’ strike.

And Amazon Prime Video will likely showcase The Wheel of Time Season 2 and The Boys: Gen V.

Apple TV+ is still undecided on its Comic-Con San Diego presence this year.
