Just hours before his passing, Rivers shared a poignant Instagram post celebrating the 25th anniversary of Limp Bizkit's iconic album Chocolate Starfish and the Hot Dog Flavored Water. The post featured a video set to The Cars' "Good Times Roll," accompanied by the caption "Nothing but love," along with hashtags "#LimpBizkit," "#LimpBizkitStyle," and "#LimpBizkitFamily." The video also referenced the band's upcoming performance at the Rock for People festival in Czechia, scheduled for June 2026.
The festival is set to be held in Hradec Králové, Czechia, featuring performances from bands such as Gorillaz, Iron Maiden, Megadeth, Papa Roach, and more.
Rivers was a pivotal figure in the formation of Limp Bizkit in 1994, alongside Fred Durst and John Otto. The band rose to prominence with hits like "Nookie" and "Rollin'," becoming a defining force in the nu-metal scene. After a hiatus due to health issues related to liver disease caused by alcohol consumption, Rivers returned to the band in 2018 following a successful liver transplant.
In their tribute, the band expressed that Rivers was more than just a bandmate, he was "the soul in the sound" and "a once-in-a-lifetime kind of human." They emphasized that his spirit would live on in every groove, every stage, and every memory. The post concluded with, "We love you, Sam. We’ll carry you with us, always. Rest easy, brother. Your music never ends."
DJ Lethal, the band's turntablist, shared his own tribute, urging fans to honor Rivers by playing his basslines and respecting his family's privacy. He wrote, “We are in shock. Rest in power, my brother! You will live on through your music and the lives you helped save with your music, charity work, and friendships. We are heartbroken ... It’s not guaranteed ✌️.”
