Sam Bankman-Fried said that he had no idea how a $16.4 million Bahamas property was registered under his parents' names and that it was intended to accommodate employees of his now-defunct FTX bitcoin exchange. Bankman-Fried informed the reporters that he did not know the specifics of his parents' home.

He stated that he knew it was not intended to be their long-term property. It was supposed to be the property of the firm. He is yet to learn how that was done.

Joseph Bankman and Barbara Fried, Stanford University law professors, were named as property owners in a gated enclave in the Bahamas. According to Reuters, which broke the story, property records classified the residence as a vacation home.

The house was part of Bankman-$121 Fried's company's million buying binge on expensive real estate on the island. According to a spokeswoman for the couple, they had long been in the process of surrendering the deeds to the home to FTX. According to Bankman-Fried, they may have stayed there while working for the firm throughout the previous year.
