Model and fitness trainer Sam Asghari has reflected on his seven-year relationship with pop icon Britney Spears, calling it a “meant to be” love story that ultimately ended in divorce.

Speaking on The Viall Files podcast on February 12, Asghari opened up about how he met Spears, their time together, and his thoughts on some of her recent controversies.

Asghari, 30, first met the Spears, 43, while filming the music video for her song ‘Slumber Party,’ in which he played her love interest. The two connected instantly.


According to People, Asghari said they shared a very natural relationship. He recalled that they went on a sushi date after the shoot, which led to a long-term relationship.

Before Spears introduced him to her Las Vegas residency act, their relationship followed a typical course, with movie outings and quality time together.

He explained that their romance was a matter of being in the right place at the right time.

Sam Asghari's struggle with Britney Spears’ conservatorship

Asghari, according to a People report, stated that navigating Spears’ conservatorship was a strange experience for him. The legal arrangement controlled many aspects of her life, and he expressed his desire to be a supportive partner to the Toxic singer.

However, their marriage came to an abrupt end when Asghari filed for divorce in August 2023, citing irreconcilable differences. Their divorce was finalised in May 2024.

Following their split, Spears caused controversy by posting a video of herself dancing with knives on Instagram. When asked about it by podcast host Nick Viall, Asghari said he is not the type of person to stop others from sharing what they want online.

He added that Spears is a "genius artist" who needs to express herself freely, with dance being one of her chosen outlets.
