2025 SAG Awards: Timothee Chalamet wins top honour

Among all the winners at the 2025 SAG Awards, many online were reportedly shocked to see Chalamet win the award for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role for his performance in the 2024 biographical musical drama, A Complete Unknown, based on the life of singer-songwriter Bob Dylan, according to Forbes.

"This guy rules so aggressively," one X user said, while sharing a video of Chalamet accepting the honour.

While speaking on stage, the actor said that he wants to be “one of the greats.” This was what caught the attention of many on social media.

On X, Chalamet’s desire to become a great was discussed by many, while some even created memes around it.

Timothee Chalamet’s Oscar nomination

Timothee Chalamet has been nominated in the Best Actor in a Leading Role category at the 97th Academy Awards slated to take place on March 2. The actor has been in the limelight for quite some time, especially being romantically linked to social media star Kylie Jenner.

One person stated on X that it was good to see Chalamet “isn’t sugarcoating how badly he wants to win the Oscar during his SAG speech.”

Jane Fonda's take on 'wokeness'

Apart from Chalamet, the other name that went viral on social media was Jane Fonda, who was given the SAG Lifetime Achievement award at the event in Shrine Auditorium and Expo Hall in Los Angeles.

Few of the posts about Chalamet and Fonda were viewed by millions of viewers on X, making the two of them the major talking points from the 2025 SAG Awards, according to Forbes.

At the event, Chalamet showcased his self-confidence by noting that he wants to be among the greats, while Fonda, on the other hand, used the platform to talk about civil liberties, thereby “displaying a sense of seriousness and righteousness,” which is straight from the traditional playbook, stated Forbes.

Run by the Screen Actors Guild, the SAG Awards are held annually and are focused on honouring the best performances in films and TV shows. This is quite different from other awards, including Oscars, as they are dedicated to actors only.
