The Denver Broncos' best play of training camp occurred on August 8 and included a few players a typical fan may not have anticipated.

On the final practice play, wide receiver Courtland Sutton leaped above CB Ronald Darby to capture a high, fiercely contested throw. He stood up and waved to everyone to return to the locker room at the UCHealth Center, as he liked seeing his offensive teammates rush onto the field toward him.

Although the catch was impressive in and of itself, it was simply only a test run. In their separate careers, Wilson and Sutton have each made numerous instances of those plays in actual games.

This particular play could be significant for the Broncos in 2022.
Understanding each other's language, actions, habits, and interests is one thing; putting that knowledge to the test is another. Sutton and Wilson have already completed many months' worth of work. They went through OTAs and training camp, and two stayed at Wilson's house in San Diego to develop chemistry.

Wilson commended Sutton's intelligence and claimed that he could play quarterback if given a chance. He also said that Sutton has been outstanding. Regarding his capability to catch the ball on the field, he has fantastic skills and is also incredibly smart.



The catch over Darby and the entire joint session with the Cowboys demonstrated this. Wilson and Sutton may not appear in the preseason, and even if they do, it won't be much, so the intensity of their bond won't likely be tested in a real game until the Broncos' September 12 regular-season opener against the Seahawks.

Sutton faced an injury in 2020, which led to many difficulties. He came back in 2021 and participated in all 17 games of the regular season, but his performance was average.

Courtland Sutton is not only playing with an elite quarterback for the first time in his career, but he is also recovering from an injury. After fellow receiver Tim Patrick tore his anterior cruciate ligament earlier in camp and is sidelined for the year, he will likely be relied upon even more than was probably initially anticipated.
