According to the New York Post, Russell Crowe and his girlfriend Britney Theriot were refused entry to an Australian restaurant for not adhering to the "smart casual" dress code. Subsequently, the couple proceeded to a nearby eatery for their midday meal following a tennis game. The incident happened at the Mr Miyagi fusion establishment in Melbourne.
Despite Crowe wearing a Ralph Lauren polo shirt and Theriot donning a tennis skirt, the couple was denied entry due to their attire.
The restaurant had a "casual but fancy" dress code policy, which forbade items, such as activewear, work gear, singlets, etc.
The restaurant owner, Kristian Klein, referred to the couple's clothing as "slobby gym gear," according to the Daily Herald.
The owner of Mr Miyagi fusion establishment, Kristian Klein, stated that they enforce their dress code policy consistently for all patrons, regardless of their celebrity status.
He explained that they were not attempting to dictate how people should dress but merely require that customers dress appropriately for their establishment, as per media reports.
The staff member, who refused service to Russell Crowe and his girlfriend, did not recognize the actor.
The restaurant also posted on Instagram, stating, "Dress smart casual, unless you're Russell Crowe, then wear whatevs."
