Running out of space? Know how to move PC games to another drive

The PC games have significantly gotten bigger by time. For instance, GTA SA required 4GB to 5GB of space to be able to run, compared to today’s popular games which require at least 200GB of space.

Games have become larger in size, and although SSDs have also increased in capacity, it can still be a challenge to accommodate them on a modestly sized disk. For instance, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare required over 200GB at launch, leaving little room for anything else. However, if you're willing to sacrifice some loading speed, you can move games to a secondary hard drive with more space without needing to download them again.

While some game clients, such as Steam, have built-in features that facilitate transferring games to a new location, others like the Epic Games Store may require additional steps to move game files.

Here's how to move PC games to another drive:

Steam

Launch Steam on PC

Go to Settings
Navigate to Downloads > Steam Library Folders
Click the "+" icon located next to your current drive
Choose the secondary install location and hit Add
The new folder will appear next to your primary drive

Now, return to the Storage Manager and select the game you want to move
Click Move and select the correct Steam folder
Click Move, again

The game's files may take some time to move if they occupy a lot of space. Once the process is complete, Steam will launch the game without any issues.

Now, launch File Explorer and navigate to GOG Galaxy's installation folder - by default, it's located at C:\Program Files (x86)\GOG Galaxy\Games
Right-click on the folder that contains the game you want to move and select Cut
Paste the folder into your desired location, such as D:\Games\GOG, and wait for the files to finish copying.
