The Boston Red Sox made a bold commitment to their future on Wednesday, signing rookie outfielder Roman Anthony to an eight-year, $130 million contract. The deal runs through the 2033 season and includes a $30 million team option for 2034.

Anthony, just 21 years old, has played only 46 games since debuting in June but has already impressed, hitting .283 with two home runs and 19 RBIs in 159 at-bats.

The Red Sox are 32-16 since his call-up, including a 10-game win streak before the All-Star break and seven straight wins entering Wednesday’s game against the Kansas City Royals.

"This is where I want to be," Anthony said during a pregame press conference attended by teammates, coaches, family, and Red Sox executives. "I’m having a blast. I just wanted to continue that."

The deal comes weeks after Boston traded away longtime star Rafael Devers, freeing up financial flexibility that the club is now using to build around younger talent like Anthony.

"This is a guy who was the No. 1 prospect in the sport," said Chief Baseball Officer Craig Breslow. "We’ve seen the impact he’s had on the team in just over 150 at-bats. The future of the organization got brighter today."

The contract buys out all of Anthony’s team-controlled years and at least two free-agent seasons, keeping him in Boston potentially through age 30.
