Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom in Avengers Doomsday: First look revealed at Disney Marketing Expo in China; here’s how Marvel fans reacted

The first official look at Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom in Avengers: Doomsday was released at the Walt Disney Marketing Expo in Shanghai, China. The first synopsis, reportedly released by Disney, has caught the attention of Marvel fans, giving a few glimpses of the mighty Marvel villain Doctor Doom and what can be expected from Robert Downey Jr.’s character.

“Doctor Doom has officially arrived on the Marvel Cinematic Universe stage. This villain, a master of cutting-edge science and powerful magic, will unleash a cascading crisis across the multiverse. Marvel's most iconic character, Robert Downey Jr., also returns as Doctor Doom!,” the tentative translation of the synopsis read, according to Movie Web

How did the fans react to Doctor Doom’s first synopsis

The synopsis released by Disney at the Walt Disney Marketing Expo in China quickly caused disappointment among fans over the Internet as it doesn't give any real new ideas about what to expect from the next big MCU event movie, according to media reports.

The Avengers: Doomsday first synopsis left social media flooded with comments with many fans calling it just a load of words that mean nothing. The translation from the original Chinese website, however, does confirm a few details about Robert Downey Jr.'s Doctor Doom. There are no marks for guessing that Doctor Doom is gearing up to tear apart the MCU. Several images and videos circulating over social media show artwork decoration at the entrance to the Expo.



In some photos which surfaced on social media, the artwork at the entrance of the Marketing Expo featured characters from Disney franchises, including Buzz Lightyear from Toy Story, Judy Hopps from Zootopia, Mickey Mouse, Spider-Man, the Mandalorian and Grogu, and Doctor Doom.



Besides that there are also video clips from within the Expo showing laser projections of Doctor Doom on his throne. The projections also reveal logos for the Avengers, Black Panther, the Fantastic Four, and the X-Men.



Marvel fans got the first glimpse of the Doctor Doom of the MCU during the post-credits scene of The Fantastic Four: First Steps. In the post-credit scene, the supervillain was seen only from behind, approaching Franklin Richards. Marvel Studios' 'Avengers: Doomsday' will be released on December 18, 2026.
