Robert De Niro's grandson, Leandro De Niro Rodriguez passed away recently. He was 19. Leandro's mother Drena De Niro is an actor and filmmaker. She was adopted by Robert De Niro in 1976 after her mother and actor Diahnne Abbott married him. Robert and Diahnne split in 1988.

Leandro was the child of Drena and her then-boyfriend, artist Carlos Rodriguez. Drena paid tribute to her late son in a heartbreaking post on Instagram on Monday, July 3, tagging Carlos.

She posted a picture of Leandro, and wrote: "My beautiful sweet angel. I have loved you beyond words or description from the moment I felt you in my belly. You have been my joy my heart and all that was ever pure and real in my life. I wish I was with you right now. I wish I was with you." (sic)


"I don’t know how to live without you but I’ll try to go on and spread the love and light that you so made me feel in getting to be your mama,” added Drena.

With several heartbreak and angel emojis, she further wrote, "You were so deeply loved and appreciated and I wish that love alone could have saved you. I’m so sorry my baby, I’m so sorry @carlosmare. Rest in Peace and Eternal Paradise my darling boy."

Among the responses was by a friend of Drena's, who said: "Drena don't tell me it's true tell me you're joking because I can't believe leo isn’t with us anymore. It’s an horrible news to digest. Drena my heart is with you and Carlos and your loved ones - I love you." (sic)
