Robert Card: Maine Shooting Suspect Found Dead after 2-day long manhunt: Details
The dead body of the man suspected of killing 18 people and injuring 13 others was found with a evident self-inflicted gunshot wound in Lewiston on Friday night.

A massive search operation was launched looking for Mr. Card in the largely rural area. Police cruisers patrolled the roads, helicopters circled the farms and forests and divers deep dived into the Androscoggin River. Several potential hiding spots were searched for, including his residence. A lockdown was imposed in Lewiston during the search operation.
The victims who were killed in the mass shooting ranged from 14 years to 76 years. These people included a group of deaf people who were at the bar playing cornhole games. After finding the dead body, officials stressed that the people of Maine are now out of any danger. Senator, Angus King in a statement said, “It will take a long, long time to process this pain, but Maine people have grit, resolve and heart and will come together through this difficult grieving period and hope for brighter, calmer days”. He further added that this news will definitely “make the community feel better. There will be no danger from him”.
Investigators probed into whether the shooter was specifically targetting any individuals. It was found that he might have been targeting one of his partners. Though, it is unclear whether she was present at either of the shooting locations or not.
Janet Mills, the Governor of Maine told the media that she called up President to inform him about Mr. Card being found dead.
Mr. Card was a Sergeant first class in the army reserve, according to the military, assigned to an infantry regiment in Saco, enlisted in 2020. Military confirmed that he was evaluated at a mental health facility because he started developing mental health issues.
