Robber killed, detective critically injured after altercation in Miami

An altercation in Miami left a Miami-Dade police officer critically injured, and the suspected robber was shot dead, officials said. Officers from the Robbery Intervention Detail responded to an armed robbery call. According to Miami-Dade police, the call came after 8 p.m. local time on Monday.

While trying to escape, the suspect struck a civilian's and the detectives' vehicles, police said. Soon after, seeing the hostile behavior, an altercation started between the suspect and the officers.




The suspect was shot fatally and died at the scene. An officer was critically injured and taken to Ryder Trauma Center for treatment. Three people were in the civilian vehicle that the suspect struck. All of them were admitted to a local hospital and were said to be in stable condition.

Police so far has not released details about the suspect or the victims.

Violence against police has been on a steep rise in the country. Last week, two police deputies from Nevada and North Carolina were shot and killed in the line of duty. The North Carolina death, which happened in the wee hours of Friday, marked the fifth shooting of a sheriff’s deputy in the central North Carolina area in 12 days.
