Argentina was on its way to winning the world thanks to a brilliant penalty goal by Lionel Messi and a poetic team effort behind Angel Di Maria’s goal, taking a 2-0 lead in the first half itself. Nobody thought France, who were goalless till the 80th minute, could make a comeback, except for one man, Kylian Mbappe.
Mbappe hit a powerful penalty and a phenomenal volley to level the scores 2-2, all in the space of 95 seconds. In the second half of extra-time, the lion of Argentina roared for the second time in the game, and Argentina was 12 minutes away from world cup glory. But Mbappe had intergalactic efforts planned for the game, and he managed to score another penalty, which took the game into a penalty shootout.
However, Argentina managed to net four times, while the French missed twice, which meant Argentina had finally won. The trophy came back to the land of Diego Maradona after 36 years and to South America after two decades.
