Following his legal victory on February 18, A$AP Rocky and his long-time partner, Rihanna, made a promise — to name their next child after the rapper’s lawyer, Joe Tacopina, in gratitude for his work on the case.

The rapper was acquitted of two charges of assault with a firearm, and in an interview published on February 19, his lawyer Tacopina revealed the couple’s unexpected gesture. He said that they expressed their gratitude by promising to name their next child after him, a pledge Tacopina acknowledged with appreciation.

Tacopina shared that A$AP Rocky expressed deep appreciation for his efforts, telling him he loved him and considered him family. The lawyer found it touching that, despite the gravity of the situation, Rocky took the time to acknowledge his dedication.

An emotional moment in court

The rapper risked facing a 24-year prison sentence if convicted of assault related to a dispute with his former friend, A$AP Relli, four years ago.

During the hearing, Rocky — whose real name Rakim Mayers — became visibly emotional, nearly collapsing as he embraced his legal team before turning to Rihanna and his family seated in the front row.

His lawyer, Tacopina, admitted he was briefly concerned when Rocky began celebrating after the first charge was dismissed, fearing the second count might not go in their favour. However, his confidence in the case proved justified as the verdict ultimately cleared the rapper of all charges.

Trial took tool on Rocky

Tacopina noted that the uncertainty of the trial had taken a toll on Rocky, who had no idea whether he would be returning home to his children that night or facing a lengthy prison sentence.

A$AP Rocky and Rihanna share two sons — RZA, aged two, and Riot, who is 18 months old.

The rapper expressed deep gratitude for his lawyer’s efforts, acknowledging the hard work put into securing his freedom.
