Robert F. Kennedy Jr. blamed his second wife for being the cause of his 37 infidelities in recently discovered recordings.

What did the secret recordings reveal?

Kennedy, who was charged by Mary Richardson Kennedy with several infidelity charges over a ten-year period, allegedly also stated that his behaviour was caused by abuse at home.

According to the outlet Mother Jones, which obtained the recordings but has yet to release them due to the nature of some of the allegations, Kennedy made the remarks during an argument in June 2011, as quoted in a report by The Independent.

According to reports, he installed audio recording equipment in the couple's home during their divorce. Kennedy filed for divorce from the couple in 2010, after they were married in 1994. In 2012, Richardson died by suicide.

A monogamous relationship is what he is looking for. Polygamy is not something he wants to be involved in. In 2011, the outlet Mother Jones recalled, that Kennedy said that he thinks that's wrong.

Richardson, who had discovered a diary containing 37 of her husband's infidelity, questioned, "But then, why have you done it for ten years?" According to the audio, Kennedy said, "I did it because I was being abused at home."

According to the report, the nominee to lead the Department of Health and Human Services had secretly recorded 60 conversations, including that particular one. In California, where both parties must agree to a recording, at least one recording seemed to have been made while Kennedy was there.

The Mother Jones report comes as Senators grilled Kennedy on Wednesday during his confirmation hearing, asking him about his prior public opposition to abortion and the vaccine.

Actress Cheryl Hines, his current wife, attended the hearing with him.

Kennedy’s cousin Caroline Kennedy accused him on Tuesday of being a “predator” and “perverse” who was unfit to be the nation’s health secretary. RFK Jr. was a recovering heroin addict who had "gone on to misrepresent, lie, and cheat his way through life," according to President John F. Kennedy's only surviving child, who wrote a scathing letter to the Senate urging them not to confirm her cousin.
