Revolutionizing Rock: 2023 Hall of Fame induction ceremony to stream live on Disney+

The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame has announced that the 2023 induction ceremony will be accessible for live streaming on Disney+ for the first time. This development ushers in a new era for music fans, who can now watch the event live on November 3 at Brooklyn's Barclays Center beginning at 8 p.m. ET.

Fans have always had to wait for an edited version of the event to air on HBO weeks after the in-person celebration. Beginning January 1, 2024, however, ABC will carry the ceremony highlights from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. ET.

The thrilling event will include a star-studded roster of inductees and a slew of renowned performances. Music fans can look forward to exciting live performances by Sheryl Crow, Missy Elliott, Chaka Khan, and Willie Nelson, among the new entrants. Furthermore, Brandi Carlile, Dave Matthews, H.E.R., Chris Stapleton, St. Vincent, and New Edition will make special appearances during the event.


The Class of 2023 induction also includes iconic names such as Kate Bush, the late George Michael, Rage Against the Machine, and The Spinners in the performers category. Notably, DJ Kool Herc, Link Wray, Al Kooper, Bernie Taupin, and Don Cornelius will be inducted.

John Sykes, chairman of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Foundation, emphasized the significance of this historic live stream and special broadcast, stating, "This historic live stream on Disney+ and special on ABC is a testament to the diverse sounds and enduring power of rock and roll. Over the last three decades, the annual live Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction has become music’s highest honor, celebrating the artists who've defined generations and changed music forever."

This year's ceremony carries particular significance, as it marks the first induction event since the removal of Rock Hall co-founder Jann Wenner from the foundation's board of directors. The decision was made by a near-unanimous vote following Wenner's controversial interview with The New York Times regarding his book "The Masters," which notably excluded interviews with women and Black artists.

Wenner's remarks suggesting that these artists were less articulate in discussing rock music drew widespread criticism. He has since issued an apology, acknowledging that his comments diminished the contributions, genius, and impact of Black and women artists.
