Republican Madison Cawthorn to face primary voters amid controversies
Pro-Donald Trump US Rep. Madison Cawthorn will face primary voters on Tuesday. He has been in the headlines recently due to several controversies.

North Carolina Rep. Cawthorn will be facing primary voters on Tuesday amid several recently-emerged controversies surrounding him. Whether Cawthorn would continue to be the youngest lawmaker in the Houses depends on Tuesday's voting. If he manages to win the voters, he will enter the second term of his office.
Cawthorn was first elected in 2020. The youngest member of Congress and the Pro-Donald Trump agitator has portrayed himself as the young conservatives' voice. He gained popularity due to the narrative that he resiliently overcame the trauma of a car crash that caused partial paralysis to him.
However, the recent controversies have hurt his chances of winning. Cawthorn has been in the headlines for several wrong reasons, including the confiscation of a gun from him at the airport twice, his comments over drug use and sex parties, and being repeatedly caught by highway police.
On the other hand, Cawthorn has rubbished all the allegations against him. He said that the Republican establishment was scared of him because he pushed ex-US President Donald Trump's agenda more effectively.
Meanwhile, the polls have suggested that Cawthorn has an advantage over his competitors. Even though it has declined in recent times, his popularity can still assist him in winning the eight-way Republican primary. Notably, the North Carolina lawmaker requires only 30% plus one vote to secure a win.
State Sen. Chuck Edwards is the leading contender against Cawthorn. Edwards is backed by several prominent lawmakers and North Carolina Sen Thom Tillis. Edwards' legislative seat covers more than 33% of the US House district.
Notably, Cawthorn spent over $3.6 million on his election campaign, while Edwards spent more than $4 million. But Cawthorn's spending on TV advertisements has been less compared to some of his rivals. He spent only $147,000 on TV advertisements.
Besides Cawthorn and Edwards, Matthew Burril and Michele Woodhouse will also be contesting.
