Republican Madison Cawthorn sees more controversy, video of his goes viral on social media

A video of Rep. Madison Cawthorn that a group has released shows him naked in bed, and the North Carolina Republican termed it as acting foolish.

As soon as the video circulated on social media, Cawthorn took to Twitter and tweeted that this video was taken years back and he was trying to be funny and being crass with a friend. He said that he wouldn't back down and that the actions were purely out of fun. He stated that he would win against blackmail in a campaign that is turning out to be a drip.

The primary voting will happen on May 17, and the early voting is underway right now. The 26-year-old has run into his latest controversy with the video.


Cawthorn has reportedly annoyed and angered a lot of his colleagues due to his antics. He became a national figure when he beat a Trump endorsed candidate in the primary in 2020. However, he has caused many distractions for Republicans trying to win the majority.

Late in April, he brought a loaded handgun through a TSA checkpoint in Charlotte. In 2021 February, Asheville Regional Airport agents secured a loaded magazine and an unloaded gun from Cawthorn's bag. Cawthorn was not charged for this incident as a spokesperson stated that he brought the gun by mistake.

He has not been away from controversies as in March, he spoke on a podcast and mentioned how many people call him for participating in orgies and consuming cocaine in front of him.

It is believed that he is dragging down his party, and many of his party members thought of supporting his primary opponent due to his highly problematic behavior. Sen. Chuck Edwards has got the weight of Sen. Thom Tillis behind him in the primary against Cawthorn.

Kevin McCarthy, the House Minority Leader, stated that Cawthorn needs to get his act together or face the internal consequences that might come upon him. He has been receiving many complaints and wants Cawthorn to get in line. However, Cawthorn denies the allegations and says that they are not true.
