Republican Congressman, Tom Reed resigns after facing accusations of sexual misconduct
On Tuesday, Tom Reed announced his decision to leave Congress. He took this decision in the light of sexual harassment charges leveled against him last year.

Reed expressed his gratitude and honored the parties while making the announcement. As per the reports, Reed will be joining a Washington D.C. bipartisan lobbying group, Prime Policy Group, post-resignation.
Reed's resignation after a sexual harassment allegation
Reed announced his resignation in a short statement on the House floor on Tuesday afternoon. Reed was accused of a sexual harassment case from 2017. Acknowledging the incident and apologising days after the incident saying that there was a time in his life in which he was "struggling" . He had also declared last year that he would not seek re-election to Congress.
He was supposed to finish the said schedule by the end of this year. Currently, there has been an ongoing battle to replace him. Six months before Election Day, it's unclear if Reed's seat will be replaced by a provisional appointee or will remain vacant until his replacement is elected in November and sworn in in January 2023.
How Reed gained popularity
Reed gained national attention through an early association with former President Donald Trump during his 2016 campaign when he became Trump's first congressional supporter during his unexpected candidacy for the presidency. Reed was a member of the influential House Ways & Means Committee and the co-chair of the nonpartisan Problem Solvers Caucus, created in 2017. He began off as a hardline conservative member before turning significantly more moderate later in his time.
New York's 23rd district has been represented by Reed since 2010. After Democrats devastated her seat in central New York, Claudia Tenney of New York's 22nd district stated that she would fight to fill his seat.
He is the 22nd House Republican to resign, seek the next position, quit, or expire this cycle. On the contrary, over 30 House Democrats have announced that they will not participate in this election.
