Glasgow's Gallery of Modern Art (GoMA) is preparing to host a highly anticipated exhibition featuring the works of renowned street artist Banksy. Titled "Cut & Run," the solo show has received official authorization from the elusive artist and is scheduled to open this weekend. Spanning a period of 25 years, the exhibition will showcase a collection of Banksy's iconic stencils that he has used to create his artwork.

In an interview with the Herald, Banksy revealed that he had kept these stencils hidden away for years, cautious of their potential use as evidence in charges of criminal damage. However, he expressed that the time for hiding them has passed, and he now considers them as works of art worthy of exhibition in a gallery. Reflecting on the irony, Banksy pondered, "I'm not sure which is the greater crime."

Banksy explained that the presence of the traffic cone atop the head of the Duke of Wellington statue outside the GoMA was what initially attracted him to choose this location for the exhibition. A gallery label accompanying the show acknowledged the ongoing phenomenon, stating, "For anyone who isn't aware - the statue out the front has had a cone on its head continuously for the past 40 odd years. Despite the best efforts of the council and police, every time one is removed another takes its place." Banksy declared this peculiar sight to be his favorite work of art in the UK and the reason for bringing the exhibition to Glasgow.

The "Cut & Run" exhibition is set to open its doors to the public on Sunday. Gareth James, the museum manager of GoMA, expressed his excitement, deeming the collaboration with Banksy a "perfect fit" for both the gallery and the city. He described the opportunity to work with an artist who has consistently captivated and challenged people worldwide over the past 25 years as a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Visitors and art enthusiasts eagerly await the unveiling of Banksy's authorized exhibition, anticipating the unique and thought-provoking artworks that will be on display. The event promises to be a significant cultural moment for Glasgow, offering the opportunity to engage with the enigmatic world of Banksy's artistic expression.
