Reforms to the nation's highest court? US Supreme Court Justice issues stern warning to Joe Biden

At a time when the US Presidential Election 2024 is just a few months away and Joe Biden has already become a lame-duck president, Supreme Court Justice Neil Gorsuch has warned him and cautioned him to exercise caution in how he moves forward in treating the judiciary. Responding to the president's proposal for sweeping reforms to the Supreme Court, he said in an interview that Biden should “be careful.” Talking to Fox News’s Shannon Bream in an interview, the judge said that he would not get into what is now a political issue during a presidential election year. He warned that it would not be helpful.

Supreme Court Justice Warns Joe Biden

In what may be termed as a scathing attack, Neil Gorsuch asked it is there for the moments when the spotlight's on him and when the government's coming after him. He also asked if he did not want a ferociously independent judge and a jury of peers to make those decisions. The Donald Trump-appointed justice warned him to be careful.

Neil Gorsuch bats for an independent judiciary

The judge also said that the independent judiciary “means that when you’re unpopular, you can get a fair hearing under the law and the Constitution and if you’re in the majority, you don’t need judges and juries to hear you and protect your rights, because you are popular.

Justice Gorsuch was reacting to Joe Biden's announcement that a set of proposed Supreme Court reforms would impose mandatory ethics rules for the court and term limits on justices.
