According to Chris Cotillo of MassLive, the Red Sox are pushing to sign reliever Tommy Kahnle, and a deal might be reached shortly. Cotillo did mention that other teams are still interested in the former Dodgers bullpen.

Kahnle, 33, threw 12 2/3 innings with a 2.84 ERA for the Dodgers in 2022, striking out 30.4 per cent of batters and walking 6.5 per cent. He did struggle with the long ball a little bit, but the limited sample size makes it difficult to read too much into that.

It was the first season back of Kahnle from the surgery of Tommy John in 2020, but once they made his debut in Dodgers in May, he was placed on the disabled list with right forearm inflammation and didn't return until September.


The Yankees selected Kahnle in the fifth round of the 2010 draft, but the Rockies selected him in the 2013 Rule 5 draft. He became a competent reliever with the Rockies, throwing to a 4.41 ERA in 102 innings over two seasons before being sent to the White Sox. His career took off in Chicago, where he developed into a dominating bullpen pitcher.



He threw to a 2.56 ERA in 63 1/3 innings over portions of two seasons there. In 2017, he struck out hitters at an astounding 42.6 per cent rate. That inspired the Yankees to acquire him at the 2017 trade deadline alongside Todd Frazier and David Robertson.
