Both former WWE Champions, Orton and McIntyre have a history of brutal encounters and fierce competition since early 2020s. It was McIntyre whom Orton defeated to win his last World Championship.
With pride and momentum on the line, fans can expect an explosive encounter as two of WWE’s top superstars square off once again in Atlanta, Georgia.
WWE used Friday night’s episode of SmackDown on July 4 to ignite tensions surrounding the future of the Undisputed WWE Championship. Fresh off his King of the Ring victory, Cody Rhodes addressed his upcoming SummerSlam showdown with John Cena.
However, the segment quickly escalated when Orton confronted Rhodes - only to be interrupted by the shocking return of McIntyre. The confrontation among the three top stars turned physical, culminating in Orton hitting McIntyre with a surprise RKO.
The escalating tension between Rhodes, Orton, and the returning McIntyre on SmackDown prompted swift action from General Manager Nick Aldis, who wasted no time in making a major announcement.
In response to the chaos, Aldis announced a blockbuster match between Orton and McIntyre, set for next week’s Saturday Night’s Main Event.
The event will be aired live on NBC and streamed on Peacock on July 12 at 8AM ET.
