Rafael Nadal's early exit from the Australian Open has raised concerns about his future in tennis. The 36-year-old Spaniard, who has struggled with injuries over the past six months, lost to American Mackenzie McDonald in the second round of the tournament.

The defeat marked Nadal's earliest exit at Melbourne Park since 2016. During the match, Nadal appeared to jar his left hip while running to hit a forehand and required a medical timeout. Despite the injury, Nadal managed to hold serve until 5-5 in the third set before McDonald secured the match.

Nadal's wife, Mery Perello, was among those visibly upset during the match, wiping away tears as she watched her husband suffer another injury on court. The emotional response from Nadal's team and the standing ovation he received from the crowd have led some to speculate that retirement could be on the horizon for the tennis icon.

Post-match, Nadal revealed that he had been dealing with a hip issue for a couple of days leading up to the match, but it had become significantly worse during the match. He stated, "I have history in the hip. I had to do treatments in the past, and address it a little (but there) was not this amount of problem. Now I feel I cannot move." He also expressed disappointment and mental devastation over the injury and early exit.
