R. Kelly has been hospitalised after what his legal team claims was a near-fatal overdose while in solitary confinement. His attorneys claim the incident was not an accident and may have been part of a larger, more sinister plot.

His team is requesting an emergency release due to inhumane conditions, threats from white supremacists, and a lack of medical care.

What led to the overdose in solitary?

The 58-year-old singer, who is incarcerated in North Carolina, reportedly passed out in his cell after taking what his attorney described as an excessively high dosage of medication, according to AllHipHop.

The motion states that on June 10, Kelly was put in isolation. Extra medication was given by prison staff two days later. He had passed out in his cell the following morning, suffering from fainting, lightheadedness, and dizziness.

Did doctors confirm it was life-threatening?

He reportedly fainted on June 13 and was taken to Duke University Hospital, where medical professionals concluded that the dosage might have been fatal, as per a report by Baller Alert. Doctors also discovered blood clots in the lungs and legs and suggested surgery.

According to his attorney, Beau Brindley, armed guards took Kelly out of the hospital against medical advice before surgery could be done.

Who does R. Kelly’s lawyer believe is behind this?

The overdose, according to Beau Brindley, was deliberate and happened only two days after he filed a separate motion accusing prison officials of putting Kelly's life in danger.

Kelly's attorneys contend that he is constantly threatened while incarcerated, citing a sworn statement made by inmate Mikeal Glenn Stine, who claimed that white supremacist organisations and prison staff plotted Kelly's murder in order to conceal wrongdoing during his trial.

Kelly is said to have been denied food for days, sleep in filthy conditions, be surrounded by insects, and be unable to access his phone, as quoted in a report.
