Ringo Starr was born on July 7, 1940, in Liverpool, England. His real name is Richard Starkey. His parents worked in a bakery and later divorced when he was very young. He first learned drums during recovery — A health worker gave children instruments, which inspired him.

Start of music career

He left school and worked different jobs before music. He joined a skiffle band while working as an apprentice joiner. In 1959, he became drummer for Rory Storm and the Hurricanes. He met The Beatles during a Hamburg show in 1960.

In 1962, he replaced Pete Best as Beatles drummer. He became popular for his steady drumming and friendly personality. He sang lead in famous songs like “Yellow Submarine” and “With a Little Help from My Friends.” He also wrote songs, including “Octopus’s Garden”, as stated by Britannica.


Solo career & later work

After the band split in 1970, he started a solo career. His early solo albums included Sentimental Journey and Beaucoups of Blues. He had hit singles like “Photograph” and “You’re Sixteen.” He also acted in films such as The Magic Christian. He later formed the All-Starr Band and toured worldwide. He continued releasing albums, including Look Up in 2025.

He married Maureen Cox in 1965 and had three children. He married actress Barbara Bach in 1981. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice. He received an MBE in 1965 and was knighted in 2018.
