Early life and education

Lisa was the youngest child of Nedra (a travel agent) and Lee Kudrow (a doctor). Both parents were Jewish. She had a bat mitzvah to honor her Jewish heritage. She went to Taft High School in Woodland Hills, California and played varsity tennis.. She graduated from Vassar College in 1985 with a biology degree.

After college, Lisa worked with her father as a medical researcher. Actor Jon Lovitz encouraged her to join the comedy troupe the Groundlings in Los Angeles. She studied under Cynthia Szigeti and became a full member of the troupe in 1989.


Television career of Lisa Kudrow

Lisa started with small TV roles, like in Cheers (1989) and Newhart (1990–93). She played Ursula Buffay on Mad About You (1992–99), who later became Phoebe’s twin sister in Friends. She was almost cast in Frasier as Roz Doyle but got replaced, as per Britannica.

In 1994, Lisa was cast as Phoebe Buffay in Friends, which became very popular. She won an Emmy Award in 1998 for her role as Phoebe. In the final seasons of Friends, she earned $1 million per episode, and 52 million viewers watched the finale.
