One of the hottest voices of the popping sixties, Jim Morrison of ‘The Doors’ fame was an American singing sensation and poet. He was born December 8, 1943, in Melbourne, Florida and tragically passed on July 3, 1971, in Paris, France, at the age of 27. He started college in 1961 at St. Petersburg Junior College in Florida. He performed his poetry at a local coffeehouse, as mentioned by Britannica. He later studied film at UCLA in California.

Jim Morrison’s father, George Morrison, was a U.S. Navy officer who later became an admiral. His mother, Clara Morrison, worked in Navy public relations. Both his parents witnessed the Pearl Harbor attack in 1941.

Childhood and Education

Jim grew up moving from place to place because of his father’s Navy job. The family later settled in Alexandria, Virginia. He was a good student but also rebellious in school.
