During the Wordle fever of late 2021 and early 2022, writer Freddie Meyer was inspired by the first significant variation of Wordle known as Dordle, which had emerged as a free once-a-day word game that could be played in a browser using two words simultaneously. On January 30, he launched Quordle.

In six days, Meyer's post appeared in The Guardian and now has millions of daily visitors. Quordle fans can donate to Meyer's Patreon account to support him in continuing to develop the puzzle game. Meyer earns a small income from Patreon.

The strategy for Quordle and Wordle is very similar. One can use common vowels and consonants, such as C, R, and N, or use words like Tight, Night, and Might to single out the letters.
