Queen Camilla said she and King Charles III are facing a “terrible” problem this summer. She revealed this on August 21 during her solo visit to the Ebor Festival in York. The issue is a wasp infestation at King Charles’s Norfolk estate (Sandringham). Camilla told Harry and Seline Silk of Knavesmire Nectar that it has been very troubling, as reported by Hello Magazine.

Camilla also shared that her own bees at her private home in Wiltshire are giving her trouble because they are swarming too much. Charles and Camilla are spending a quiet summer at Balmoral estate in Scotland and may be avoiding Sandringham because of the wasps.

King Charles issues warning about wasp problem

On August 18, King Charles even issued a warning to Sandringham visitors, saying: “Please be aware that wasp activity is currently high in this area. Thank you.” A beekeeper in a full sting-proof suit was also spotted at the estate, according to the report by Hello Magazine.

Royal family and beekeeping tradition

Both Charles and Camilla are known beekeeping enthusiasts. At his Highgrove residence, the King’s bees make a special ‘Royal Garden Honey’ sold on the Highgrove Gardens website. He also keeps hives at Clarence House and Buckingham Palace.

Beekeeping runs in the royal family — in 2021, Kate Middleton shared her own honey from her personal beehives while visiting children at the Natural History Museum in South Kensington, as reported by Hello Magazine.
