Paris Olympics 2024 is starting off this July with the opening ceremony on July 26 this year. Every sporting discipline at the Paris Olympics 2024 this year will see a gold, silver and bronze medal winner, with the total count of the medals going to the overall medal tally for the respective nationalities of the participants.

Do Olympics medalists receive cash prizes?

Neither gold, silver or bronze medalists receive any cash prize, if the International Olympic Committee rules are considered. However, according to a previous ET report, they could be awarded handsome payouts by their country's governments or their national Olympic committees. For example, Team USA participants will receive more than $35,000 for the gold medal while silver and bronze medalists receive a little less. Athletes also make money from sponsorships and endorsements in popularly followed Olympic sports.

Are bronze medalists generally happier than silver medalists?

There is a critical psychological aspect behind the thoughts of medal winners. It is a general notion that true sportsmen are never content and always keep aiming higher. An Olympic gold medal is always one of the highest honors for any sportsman, as it brings glory to both, the individual, as well as the country. However, even on winning the Gold medal, an athlete could be thinking about the World record or Olympic record he/she could have achieved or bettered.

In terms of silver medalists there may be a feeling of squandered opportunity for missing out on the gold medal, the dream of every Olympian. Meanwhile, even though bronze medal winners are a little less content than Olympic silver medalists, based on the fact that they could have done better, they are still better off than the 'missed opportunity' feeling of the silver medal winner, as they know for a fact that could have come in fourth and missed out on a medal entirely.
