Protests erupt at world's biggest iPhone factory in China's Zhengzhou, here's why
Foxconn, the subsidiary of iPhone in China, has crossed swords with workers deploying security in riot gear in the iPhone city, Zhengzhou.

With Covid cases increasing, the company imposed a lockdown in the city, cornering those who didn’t have Covid and those who suffered from it. Reports came in that workers were cringing for medicines and food as both was in short supply.
Workers said they were protesting against Foxconn going back against the contract. Workers accused Foxconn of changing the contract on their own and of dues being held back, leading to anger.
Also, some workers said they don’t have Covid and were forced to reside with infected people raising the risk. With videos going viral from iPhone city, workers could be heard shouting, “Defend our rights.”
Some even called “fight”. Many workers were seen complaining about food and not being paid their bonuses promised earlier.
Workers who were recently recruited feared contracting Covid from the older staff. People could be seen smashing windows and cameras installed within the city.
The staff members say that those protesting want their subsidy and return home. In October, many workers fled the city due to the rise in Covid cases. They hitchhiked lorries to return home to other parts of China.
Foxconn has tried to talk to the workers with promises of better pay and bonuses. The management decided to implement “closed loop operations” at the factory area to isolate it from Zhengzhou city.
Apple already announced that productions for the iPhone 14 have been on the low side due to problems in Zhengzhou.
