Prince William and Princess Kate confirm move to Windsor’s Forest lodge, leaving Adelaide Cottage behind

Kensington Palace has confirmed that Prince William and Princess Kate are preparing to relocate their family to Forest Lodge in Windsor Great Park by the end of the year.

In a short statement released Friday(August 15), a palace spokesperson said: “The Wales family will move house later this year.” No further details were given.

Forest Lodge, a Grade II listed property inside Windsor Great Park, is part of the royal estate and protected under England’s National Heritage List. The site lies a short distance from Windsor Castle and has historically served as a private retreat for members of the royal family.


Media reports, including The Sun and The Independent, describe the home as an eight-bedroom lodge with extensive grounds. While the palace has not confirmed the size, documents show that minor renovations are underway. According to the reporting, the couple intend to fund these works themselves.

Why the move now?

The Prince and Princess of Wales have lived at Adelaide Cottage, a four-bedroom home on the Windsor estate, since 2022. Their three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, attend nearby Lambrook School in Berkshire, making Windsor an ideal base.

Royal watchers say the move signals a desire for more space and long-term stability. One insider told The Sun: “This is a move for the long-term. They see it as their forever home.”

The relocation underscores the Waleses’ preference for Windsor over London. Adelaide Cottage gave the family proximity to the late Queen Elizabeth II, while Forest Lodge represents a larger, more secluded residence.

The move also reflects the couple’s efforts to balance royal duty with raising their children in relative privacy, away from the constant spotlight of Kensington Palace.
