US President Joe Biden's national security adviser Jake Sullivan, said the sham referendums Russia is planning to use as a pretext to annex more Ukrainian territory violate UN principles, according to report.

Sullivan said the US would not recognize Russian claims to any part of Ukraine purportedly annexed. He later said their opposition to Russia's actions is unequivocal, and they will continue working with their allies and partners to impose costs on Russia.

In addition, Sullivan speculated that Russian President Vladimir Putin might be preparing to mobilize more troops.

Sullivan said President Biden would speak on strengthening the UN and its charter, especially in light of Russia's challenges to territorial integrity and sovereignty as a member of the UN Security Council.

In response to the rising cost of food worldwide, Sullivan said President Biden's speech would include a 'robust' section on global food security, and the president would advocate for eliminating export bans and hoarding.
