A massive earthquake measuring 7.6 on the Richter scale shook Mexico in significant parts of the Western Coast on the Pacific side. Coincidentally, two earthquakes years before had rocked Mexico on the same day. This is the third time since 1985 that devastating earthquakes have shaken Mexico.

The quake happened just after noon at 1:05 PM local time, according to reports from the US Geological Survey (USGS). In Manzanillo, Colima, a port city, reported one death due to a wall in the mall the person had visited. President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador confirmed the news of the death.

There was a tsunami warning issued along the coastline of Mexico, but the threat didn't extend beyond Mexico, and California and Hawaii were not issued similar warnings. The threat area covers 200 miles from the quake's epicenter.

The quake was centered around Aquila, 23 miles southeast, at a depth of 9.4 miles. The place was very close to the boundary between the Colima and Michoacan states, as informed by the USGS.

Information confirmed that there were no other reports of damage other than a few cracks on buildings. Michoacan's public security department said that reports of damage came from the town of Coalcoman.

Irlanda Villa informed us that a few walls had collapsed in the town of Coahuayana, a coastal town near the boundary of Colima, but people feared the Tsunami warning more. They are thankful that the tsunami didn't come, and that everything was peaceful at the end of it all.

The Mayor of Mexico City, Mayor Claudia Sheinbaum, informed us there weren't any damages in the city.

There were similar earthquakes in 1985 and 2017, and they both hit on the same day, September 19th. The earthquake happened after a memorial siren rang to mark the previous year's earthquakes.

Paul Earle, a USGS seismologist, dispelled any conspiracy theory and said that the earthquakes happening on the same day were pure coincidence. The earthquake in 1985 caused severe damage, and around 10,000 people died. That quake measured 8.0 on the Richter scale. Whereas the 2017 earthquake on the same day killed approximately 370 people and measured 7.1, the states of Puebla and Morelos were severely hit.
