The Powerball jackpot has risen to an estimated $35 million for Monday night’s drawing after no ticket matched all six winning numbers in Saturday’s drawing. The advertised $35 million prize is based on the annuity option, which would be paid in annual installments over 30 years. The winner could instead choose an estimated $15.2 million cash option. Both prizes would be subject to federal taxes, while state and local taxes could also apply depending on where the winning ticket was purchased. Winning the Powerball jackpot remains one of the most difficult lottery feats. Players must match five white balls and the red Powerball, with overall jackpot odds of approximately 1 in 292.2 million.

Powerball has already produced several major winners in 2026. On Wednesday, August 12, a ticket sold in Illinois won the massive $1.04 billion jackpot, ending a run of 44 consecutive drawings without a jackpot winner. The prize was the eighth-largest jackpot in Powerball history. The Illinois winner can take the full $1.04 billion through an annuity paid over 30 years or select an estimated $450.5 million lump-sum payout, before taxes.

Other major Powerball jackpots have also been claimed this year. A ticket sold in North Carolina won $209.3 million in January, while an Arkansas ticket won $250.8 million in March. In April, a Delaware player claimed a $231 million jackpot. Powerball jackpots can grow rapidly when consecutive drawings pass without a winner. The largest jackpot in the game's history reached $2.04 billion in 2022. The next two biggest prizes were $1.817 billion and $1.787 billion, both won in 2025.

Players do not need to hit the jackpot to win a substantial prize. Matching all five white balls without the Powerball can result in a $1 million prize, before any applicable taxes or Power Play adjustments. Powerball tickets are currently sold in 45 states, Washington, DC, Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands, making it one of the most widely available lottery games in the country.
