The odds of hitting the jackpot remain about 1 in 292.2 million, making the top prize one of the hardest lottery wins to achieve.
The Powerball jackpot has grown to an estimated $207 million ahead of the Wednesday, September 9, drawing after no ticket matched all five white balls and the red Powerball in the previous drawing. The latest rollover gives lottery players another shot at a multimillion-dollar prize. The advertised jackpot reflects the estimated 30-year annuity, but winners can choose an estimated $89.3 million cash option instead. Both amounts are listed before federal and applicable state taxes.

POWERBALL JACKPOT ODDS REMAIN EXTREMELY DIFFICULT

Winning the Powerball jackpot requires matching all five white balls and the red Powerball. The odds of hitting the jackpot remain about 1 in 292.2 million, making the top prize one of the hardest lottery wins to achieve. However, players do not need to match all six numbers to win. Powerball features multiple prize levels, giving ticket holders opportunities to collect prizes for matching different combinations of numbers.

ILLINOIS TICKET WINS MASSIVE $1.04 BILLION JACKPOT

The latest major Powerball breakthrough came on August 12, when a ticket sold in Illinois matched all six numbers to claim an estimated $1.04 billion jackpot. The win ended a 44-drawing stretch without a jackpot winner and became the eighth-largest Powerball jackpot in history. The Illinois winner can receive the prize through a 30-year annuity or take an estimated $450.5 million cash option, with both amounts before taxes.

The Illinois victory was not the only massive Powerball win this year. A North Carolina ticket claimed an estimated $209.3 million jackpot in January. In March, an Arkansas ticket won approximately $250.8 million, while a Delaware ticket secured an estimated $231 million prize in April.

Powerball jackpots can rapidly increase when drawings pass without a jackpot winner. The current record remains the extraordinary $2.04 billion prize won in 2022. Two other enormous jackpots followed in 2025, worth $1.817 billion and $1.787 billion.

Powerball is available across 45 states, Washington, DC, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. If Wednesday's drawing produces no jackpot winner, the $207 million prize will roll over again, potentially creating an even larger jackpot for the next drawing.
