Police launch investigation after violence erupts between Michigan and Michigan State players

Warde Manuel, U-M athletic director, explained how the police are now investigating the matter and that they had watched the video of the violence breaking out between Michigan and Michigan State players.

Melissa Overton, Deputy Police Chief, U-M, said an investigation in partnership with Michigan's athletic department and MSU Police was underway. Warde Manuel said they had left the inquiry in authorities’ hands, and it was not how players should interact after games.

According to the U-M athletic director, watching another team grab a player and do what happened was unacceptable.




A few of the sideline support staff from MSU yelled at the referees as they left the stadium through the tunnel. At least three players - Angelo Grose, Itayvion Brown, and Zion Young, fought with U-M’s Ja'Den McBurrows in the tunnel just shortly after the final horn. The three punched and kicked the player.

Some other players like Daniel Barker, Tyrell Henry, and Jayden Reed were nearby, and three reporters were also present who filmed and watched as the violence escalated. MSU players tried pulling their mates away from the U-M representative. A police officer was present in the hallway watching the incident as he initially attempted to stop the scuffle. Players and staff of both teams were abusing each other as others tried to calm the matter.
