Polar vortex collapse forecast for U.S., Canada: Heavy snowfall, severe tornado alert, thunderstorm warning issued for Easter Saturday

Polar vortex collapse forecast for North America and Canada shows there will be severe impact on the weather in the U.S. and eastern parts of Canada. As the stratospheric Polar Vortex enters final phase of the season, residual Polar vortex gets active and hovered over North America and eastern parts of Canada. This will lead to dip in the normal temperatures and late-season snowfall.


Meanwhile, the significant winter storm that started on Good Friday across the Northern Plains, is expanding and intensifying on the Easter Saturday. Heavy snowfall and disruptive icing will create dangerous travel, according to NWS Weather Prediction Center.



The met department has predicted that severe winter weather will continue as heavy snow, sleet and freezing air is expected in Dakotas, Minnesota throughout Saturday.


The heavy snow with gusty wind reduced visibility making it dangerous for road travel.


Freezing rain will pound areas across eastern Minnesota, Northern Wisconsin, and Northern Michigan. The ice storm may lead to tree damages and power outages in those areas.


Severe tornado, thunderstorm watch have been issued for parts of Arkansas into far southeastern Oklahoma. While, Strong to locally damaging gusts remain possible. A downstream watch is not expected.
