Playtime cut off: Nvidia GeForce now will block gamers after 100 hours each month

Nvidia’s GeForce Now is introducing a 100-hour monthly playtime cap for almost all subscribers. This means that once you reach this threshold, you must pay an additional amount to continue playing. This change will impact almost all subscribers beginning from January 1, 2026, marking a major transition in how the cloud gaming platform functions.

What is GeForce Now?

GeForce Now is a cloud-based streaming platform that enables gamers to play titles they own on Nvidia’s remote, high-performance servers. They can stream their games to different devices, that includes PCs, smart TVs, smartphones, select handheld consoles, and VR headsets. This allows users to enjoy demanding games without the requirement of a top-tier gaming PC.

Who Is Affected and Who Is Exempt?

In late 2024, Nvidia launched a 100-hour cap for fresh subscribers who joined after January 1, 2025. Current members were temporarily exempted, but from January 1, 2026, almost all accounts will come under the new monthly limit scheme. Long-time players who subscribed to the Founder member scheme before March 17, 2021, are exempt from the restriction, provided their membership remains active.

Additional Hours and Pricing Details

Players who need more time can purchase 15-hour blocks. Pricing differs depending on the subscription tier: $2.99 for Performance (formerly Priority) and $5.99 for Ultimate. The Performance plan is estimated at $9.99 per month, while the Ultimate plan has the cost at $19.99. There is also a free, ad-supported tier where gamers can play for one hour at a time.

Rollover Hours for Unused Playtime

Unused hours do not go completely to waste. Subscribers who don’t reach their 100-hour restriction can roll over 15 hours of playtime into the coming month, offering some flexibility for less frequent players.

What Is the Impact on Gamers

Reaching 100 hours in a month is no small thing, it amounts to more than 13% of a 31-day month. For casual gamers, this may not be a challenge, but for devoted players or those for whom gaming is a main hobby, the limit may feel restrictive and limit the number of titles they can experience.

PCMag Review Highlights

GeForce Now has been admired as a viable cloud gaming solution under the suitable conditions. As PCMag cited in their review: “Assuming that you have the best internet connection possible, and the titles you want to play are available on the service, GeForce Now is a feasible gaming PC replacement.”
