Planning for a long drive during the holidays? Gas prices fall to 3.5 year low; here are latest rates

The American Automobile Association or AAA, has recently stated that the price of gas has fallen to $3.01 a gallon nationally, on an average, as of Tuesday. Gas prices have slightly risen to $3.03 a gallon on Thursday. In a press release, AAA spokesman Andrew Gross has said that the prices could plunge below $3 per gallon in the next few days.

Hockley County in Texas might have recorded the lowest fuel prices at $2.30. It was in 2021 that prices of gasoline had dropped below the 3 dollar mark. The demand for gas had risen a bit between November-end and the beginning of December from 8.5 million barrels per day to 8.73 million, as per the Energy Information Administration.

As of Sunday, Hawaii has been the most expensive place to buy gas where it has recorded $4.56 a gallon. California comes second with $4.39 for a gallon of gasoline. Washington, Nevada and Oregon have ranked subsequently.

Missouri has had one of the lowest gas prices as on Sunday, where drivers had to spend 2.69 bucks for a gallon. Arkansas and Texas have recorded prices of $2.63 a gallon, while Mississippi residents had to spend a cent less for gas. The lowest gas prices have been seen at Oklahoma, at $2.52 a gallon.

The AAA has also put out some numbers for EV owners. Prices for a kilowatt of electricity in charging stations has averaged at 35 cents nationally, as on Tuesday. While Hawaii tops the charts here as well with 57 cents for a kilowatt, Kansas has had the lowest prices for charging electricity driven cars and vehicles with 22 cents for a kilowatt of electricity.
