Florida plane crash: Two people have died after a small aircraft headed to Jamaica for Hurricane Melissa relief efforts crashed in Coral Springs, Florida, on Monday morning, November 10. The Coral Springs authorities did not release the identities of the deceased as recovery and investigation operations continue.

In an official update, the city stated, “Two people tragically lost their lives as a result of a plane crash in Coral Springs.”

The Florida plane crash follows another recent plane crash in Kentucky that killed 14 people and comes amid growing concern over US air traffic control challenges, which some reports suggest have been worsened by disruptions linked to the recent government shutdown.

How the Florida plane crash happened

The Beechcraft King Air twin-turboprop departed from Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport at around 10:14 a.m., bound for Jamaica to deliver aid, CBS News reported, quoting a spokesperson for the airport. The plane reportedly struck the top of a palm tree and tore through a residential fence before plunging into a pond behind a home, WFLA reported.

Despite the impact, officials said no homes sustained major damage, though residents were advised to contact police if they find debris from the crash.

Ongoing investigation of the Florida plane crash

The Coral Springs Police Department said the crash occurred near 5700 Creekside Drive, with the first emergency alerts issued at approximately 10:19 a.m. local time.
