Pilot dies during Reno National Championship Air Races in Nevada: Here's what led to tragedy

A pilot has been killed in a single-engine plane crash that occurred at the Reno National Championship Air Races in Nevada State, US. The fatal accident happened during the third lap.

In a fiery accident that occurred during a racing event, a plane crashed and went down in a fireball on Sunday. In the tragic crash, the pilot was killed, and the plane had burst into flames. The crash was recorded in a video and shared on social media, catching the media's and masses' attention.

When and where did this plane crash happen?
As per the Reno Air Racing Association, the accident occurred during the Jet Gold Race in Nevada state of the US. The race was a part of the Reno National Championship Air Races, and the pilot was attempting the third lap when this accident happened. The fatal crash forced all other pilots to return to the ground immediately.


The horrific moments of the crash were captured in a 10-second video taken from a live streaming on YouTube. The video shows the plane crashing to the ground and going like a fireball before hopping several times and bursting into flames. The commentator in the video screams, while the race controllers in the last part of the video can be heard saying "red flag, red flag'.

Is there any official comment or statement regarding the Nevada plane crash?
At a news conference, the CEO and President of the Reno Air Racing Association, Fred Telling, said that the pilot was on the third lap of six before the crash occurred. There was only the pilot onboard when it crashed. Fred also said that all other pilots safely landed and very little information and data about the accident is available now. The name of the deceased pilot has not been revealed yet.

The National Transportation Safety Board and Federal Aviation Administration have investigated the accident. The Full Service Law Enforcement Agency of Northern Nevada, Washoe County, tweeted that the team was responding to the crash and requested the public to avoid the Red Rock Road area. Fred Telling also expressed his deepest sympathies for the family of the pilot. The race was suspended shortly after the accident.
