For over a decade, the league has partnered with Good360, a Virginia-based charitable organization, to donate surplus apparel to communities in need worldwide.

Joe Ruggiero, NFL Senior Vice President for Consumer Products, explained that while fans rush to purchase gear celebrating their team's success, the league ensures that unsold items from the losing team do not enter the commercial market, as mentioned in a report by USA Today.

Instead, they are collected from retailers and stadium stores and redirected to Good360's nonprofit network.

A Responsible and Charitable Distribution

Good360 works with over a thousand nonprofit organizations, ensuring that donated goods, including T-shirts, sweatshirts, hats, and towels, reach individuals who need them the most.

These items have been distributed across various countries, including Ukraine, Mongolia, Georgia, Estonia, and Latvia.

"We clearly want these products to be utilized, but we don’t want them appearing for resale or unnecessarily highlighting the losing team," Ruggiero said.

"The clubs wouldn’t want to be associated with that."

The NFL’s approach aligns with sustainability efforts, ensuring that unsold items serve a practical purpose rather than being discarded.

The league also works to ensure that donations do not disrupt local economies, carefully selecting nonprofit partners to distribute the gear responsibly.

A Win for Communities in Need

Good360 CEO Cinira Baldi emphasized the positive impact of these donations, noting that they provide essential clothing to people who may not have access to such resources.

"Anytime we can move products into communities in need, there is a lot of gratitude," Baldi said.

Each year, thousands of items are distributed through this partnership—about 1,500 pieces of apparel and 500 pieces of headwear, according to Ruggiero.

These donations have made a significant difference for individuals facing hardships worldwide.

"This partnership is essential because so many people internationally lack access to basic needs like clothing," Baldi added.

"The ability of the U.S. to give back and help communities globally is one of the most powerful things we can do as human beings."
