Pete Alonso smashes Darryl Strawberry’s 37-year-old Mets Home Run record
Pete Alonso etched his name in New York Mets history. He surpassed Darryl Strawberry's long-standing franchise record. Alonso achieved his 253rd home run against the Atlanta Braves. The Mets celebrated this milestone with fans and teammates. Alons...

The Mets celebrated with a scoreboard graphic showing '253' alongside polar bears, a nod to Alonso’s nickname. He embraced Brandon Nimmo and Jeff McNeil before doffing his cap and blowing kisses to a near-sellout crowd.
Manager Carlos Mendoza led the dugout in joining Alonso for hugs as fans chanted his name. During the next at-bat, he took a curtain call, and after the inning, 'The Natural' theme played as cameras focused on Strawberry’s retired No. 18 in left field.
It was Alonso’s fifth homer in 10 games this month, matching his total from a 43-game stretch earlier this summer. He tied Strawberry’s mark Saturday against the Brewers.
Since debuting in 2019 with a rookie-record 53 homers, Alonso has reached 40 in two other seasons and been one of baseball’s most consistent power hitters.
A five-time All-Star, Alonso returned to the Mets in February on a two-year, $54 million deal with a 2026 player option of $24 million he’s expected to decline. He has appeared in 965 games, playing in a franchise-record 372 straight.
The only other active players leading their franchises in homers are Manny Machado (Padres) and Mike Trout (Angels). Strawberry set the previous Mets mark in 1988, finishing his New York career with 252 homers.
